Tuition Fee
The tuition fee charged by IHE Delft for the MSc Programme in Water and Sustainable Development is €20,700 (1,2) for the full (68EC) programme.
The fee includes the use of a laptop (3) for each MSc student and internet access in all rooms in IHE Delft rented accommodation in Delft. Also included are the handling fee, costs of fieldtrips, the introductory programme and study materials. The costs of the residence permit and insurance are not included in the tuition fee and are at this moment:
- Health insurance: €684 (4)
- Residence permit: €243 one-off fee (4)
Participants are expected to cover their own living expenses. The estimated amount needed for subsistence and accommodation is approximately €1220 per month.
Participants who are accompanied by their families should have additional financial resources. On top of the expenses already mentioned, other items have to be considered, such as ticket costs, fee for collection of entry visa and, if you intend to do research in a country outside The Netherlands, tickets and research costs etc.

*Value Added Tax (VAT)
As of June 16, 2018, the legal status of IHE Delft has changed. From this date, IHE Delft is a not for profit foundation covered by tax requirements in the Netherlands and IHE Delft has to charge (and pay) Value Added Tax (VAT).
The VAT percentage charged by IHE Delft depends on variables. VAT will be charged by IHE Delft depending on to whom the invoice will be sent, where the activities will take place and where the beneficiary resides.
The most common cases are stated below.
When the invoice is sent to:
1. Natural person (private person)
- The invoice is sent to a Dutch natural person, for an activity in or outside the Netherlands: VAT rate of 21% will be charged on the invoice,
- The invoice is sent to a natural person resided within a European Union (EU) member country, for an activity in NL- or outside EU: VAT rate of 21% will be charged on the invoice,
- The invoice is sent to a natural person from outside the EU: 21% VAT
2. Legal entity (private (i.e., business entity or non-governmental organization) or public (i.e., government) organization)
- The invoice is sent to a Dutch legal entity: a VAT rate of 21% will be charged on the invoice.
- The invoice is sent to a legal entity within a European Union (EU) member country with a valid VAT number: 0% VAT will be charged on the invoice, mentioning VAT reverse charge.
- The invoice is sent to a legal entity within a European Union (EU) member country without a (valid) VAT number: A VAT rate of 21% will be charged on the invoice. No VAT will be charged if the legal entity is an International Organisation and can prove it is tax exempt in the country of residence.
- The invoice is sent to legal entity outside the EU: no VAT will be charged, this is outside the scope of Dutch VAT.

COLFUTURO Joint Loan Scholarship
For applicants from Colombia
This initiative will open opportunities for exceptional Colombian students by facilitating their MSc in Water and Sustainable Development at IHE Delft in the Netherlands. The primary criterion for selecting scholarship recipients is academic merit and potential.
Exceptional students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievements and a clear commitment to advancing their education in the field of water and sustainable development will be eligible for this unique opportunity.
The scholarship not only recognizes and rewards academic excellence but also aims to nurture the next generation of leaders in water-related disciplines. Prospective students interested in the programme must first apply and gain academic admission to the Master.

FirstRand Foundation Scholarship
For applicants from South Africa
The scholarship will provide full funding for one South African student each year. Candidates have to apply and must be accepted for any of the four thematic tracks of the regular (68EC) MSc in Water and Sustainable Development at IHE Delft.
Applications for the FirstRand IHE Delft Water Education Scholarship are online only. FirstRand and IHE Delft are looking for the best applicant who will benefit deeply from the opportunity and contribute to South Africa on their return.
The FirstRand Foundation will conduct the interviewing and selection process, which will run concurrently with the FirstRand International Postgraduate Scholarship programme, based on academic excellence, leadership ability, community involvement and the candidate’s potential to be a destiny changer.
The deadline to apply for the scholarships is 20 February 2025 - we advice to apply for academic admission at IHE Delft least three weeks before this deadline.

IAEA Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme (MSCFP)
For female applicants
The IAEA Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme (MSCFP) seeks to inspire and support young women to pursue a career in the nuclear field. To that end, the MSCFP provides scholarships to selected students studying towards a master’s degree in nuclear related subjects as well as internship opportunities facilitated by IAEA.
Who should apply? Eligibility criteria
The IAEA MSCFP is open to students from IAEA Member States who meet the following entry requirements:
- Female candidates;
- Accepted by or enrolled in an accredited university in master’s programme in a nuclear related field.
Preference will be given to applicants with above average academic credentials (75% or above or GPA > 3.0 out of 4.0).
The programme supports young women studying in nuclear related fields relevant to the IAEA’s work to advance the safe, secure and peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology such as Isotopic Techniques, applied to Water Resources and Environmental Engineering.

ICETEX
For applicants from Colombia
ICETEX offers exceptional Colombian students support to enroll in the MSc in Water and Sustainable Development starting in 2025 at IHE Delft in the Netherlands. The scholarship can be used for both the one-year MSc and the two-year Research MSc.

Joint Japan Worldbank Graduate Scholarship Programme (JJ/WBGSP)
For early and mid-career professionals from developing countries
Since 1987, the Joint Japan Worldbank Graduate Scholarship (JJWBGSP) has supported over 6,000 mid-career professionals from 160 countries in completing graduate degrees in development-related fields.
Successful applicants to the one-year MSc in Water and Sustainable Development, who met the JJWBGSP requirements, were considered for the scholarship to fully finance their study at IHE Delft.

For applicants from the MENA region
The Mahmoud S. Rabbani Scholarship is intended for Arab students who have been academically admitted into a Master’s or PhD programme in the Netherlands.
Candidates must be nationals of any of the following countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia, UAE, Yemen, or Sudan.

NAF Study Loan Program
For applicants from the USA
The Netherland-America Foundation (NAF) provides interest-free loans to eligible Dutch or American students and professionals enrolling in advanced studies coursework or research at an accredited institution of higher learning. It is meant for Dutch students studying in the United States or American students studying in the Netherlands.
All loan applications must be completed in English. The NAF Education Committee reviews Study Loan proposals each May.

As IHE Delft is a UNESCO affiliated Institute and not a regular university, it may not appear in their website listings of eligible institutions. It is worth applying for funding once you have been academically accepted by IHE Delft, as these organisations will most likely consider your fellowship application. The name UNESCO-IHE (former name of IHE Delft) may appear in some application systems.

Partial Scholarships in the field of Sanitary Engineering and Sanitation
For applicants from Latin America and the Caribbean
Four Partial MSc scholarships on Sanitation and Sanitary Engineering (Engineering Sciences and Sanitation profiles) on the Water and Health Track of the MSc programme on Water and Sustainable Development.
IHE Delft offers 4 scholarships which cover the full tuition fee (approximately 50% of the total cost) of the 68 ECTS MSc programme on Water and Sustainable Development (with a duration of 12 months) to citizens from Latin America. Cost of living, visa, insurance, travel and thesis-related fieldwork costs need to be covered by the candidate or through other sources. Candidates from any Latin American country are eligible if they follow the track Water and Health in the profiles of Engineering Sciences or Sanitation.

The Qalaa Holdings Scholarship Foundation was created in 2007, out of a strong will to contribute to national development by creating high-caliber professionals to help enhance Egypt’s growth in all sectors. The Foundation is funded by an endowment from Qalaa Holdings to grant academic scholarships for talented and promising young Egyptian men and women to pursue master's degrees abroad, such as the MSc in Water and Sustainable Development.

Rotary Scholarship for Water and Sanitation Professionals
The strategic partnership between The Rotary Foundation (TRF) and IHE Delft Institute for Water Education aims to tackle the world’s water and sanitation crisis by increasing the number of water professionals to devise, plan, and implement solutions in developing and emerging countries. Through this partnership, a limited number of scholarships are awarded annually to graduate students at IHE Delft’s campus in the Netherlands.
Students admitted to IHE Delft Institute for Water Education’s Master of Science program in Water and Sustainable Development (68EC) can be nominated by a local Rotary Club in their home community by submitting the application form for a scholarship to the Rotary/IHE Delft committee in the Netherlands, together with the student’s resume and the IHE Delft admission letter. Only completed application forms fully supported and submitted by the sponsoring Rotary Club will be considered.

WWF Food Systems Fellowship
WWF’s Russell E. Train Education for Nature Program (EFN) invites applications from aspiring and experienced researchers, practitioners, and leaders to pursue graduate-level studies (master’s and PhD) geared towards research that cultivates a better understanding of the place-based nature of food systems and transformation. There is substantial evidence at the global scale of the urgent need for food system transformation, but less attention has been paid to how transformations toward more healthy and sustainable food systems might play out at the national level.
The aim of the Food Systems Fellowship is to support outstanding master’s or doctoral students to develop evidence-based, innovative, and interdisciplinary research on food systems at the national level to catalyze the process of generating an improved understanding of the country-specific nature of food systems and transformation. Fellows will also have an opportunity to join the expansive global community of EFN alumni to enable knowledge exchange and collective success.
The fellowship is open to nationals of eligible countries within WWF-US priority areas who are already enrolled/are interested in enrolling in a master’s or PhD program. Eligible countries include: Belize, Bhutan, Bolivia, Brazil, Cambodia, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chile, Colombia, Dem. Groups
Private or public water sector organizations that send batches of (equal or larger than) three of their employees are eligible for a reduction of the tuition fee of 25% per student.
